Many perfume brands boast about their high fragrance oil concentration. But this doesn’t necessarily guarantee high quality (although it can). Let me explain.
Consumer awareness in the perfume category is growing – which we are very happy about. Consumers know that good products are not limited to those available in well-known drugstores. Niche perfumes are experiencing a renaissance. Customers expect a lot, both in terms of longevity and projection of perfume. That is why they pay attention to whether a product is an Eau de Toilette, Eau de Parfum, or strictly perfume, as this indicates the dosage of fragrance essence used. Sometimes manufacturers themselves highlight such concentrations. They say: “Others have ONLY this much, while we have AS MUCH AS this”.
Dosage matters
Indeed, the dosage of the fragrance composition – or, in other words, the fragrance concentration – does matter. The concept may seem simple in theory: the more essence we add, the stronger the perfume will be. That is why it is indeed worth knowing what dosage a given brand uses. At the same time, it is important to realize that this is not the whole story. Why?
The scent composition itself is crucial
The amount of composition we dose is important, but it is not the only factor. The composition itself also matters. If we use even 30% of a questionable-quality essence, the product will not have good performance. On the other hand, if we use only 10% of a very high-quality composition, the product may satisfy even demanding customers. And if the essence itself is top quality and we decide to use it at a high concentration – the quality will be unquestionable.
Eau de toilette stronger than eau de parfum (and even stronger than perfume)?
Yes, this can happen. Many Eau de Toilettes from good brands can be more long-lasting than perfume extracts from lower-quality brands. And this is often the case.
I deliberately wrote “lower-quality”, not “less well-known”. Quite often, it is actually new, less well-known brands that try to win market share by offering perfumes that stand out in terms of quality. However, it is always important to test a product on your own skin rather than relying solely on a brand’s marketing communication.
A high concentration of fragrance composition is not always the best solution
A higher concentration of fragrance composition does not always mean better performance. Above a certain concentration level, product longevity may continue to increase, but projection may decrease, and the scent may become more “skin-close”. This results, among other things, from the lower alcohol content and the greater “density” of the fragrance system, which limits the diffusion of molecules into the air.
What kind of perfumes do we produce under private labels?
The key factor is the specification agreed upon with the brand. As a manufacturing company, we are able to set almost any dosage of fragrance composition. Everything depends on the client, who defines not only the quality goals but also the product designation. Based on that, we select the appropriate essence and concentration.
We always present different options to the brands we work with and provide proper guidance so that together we can create a product that achieves success in the market.
